Escapees, the RV club that caters to full timers, also has commercial members that understand and work with the full time life style.

NC; Union Grove; Van Hoy Farms Family CG; 704-539-5493; Exit 65 I-77 North of Charlotte; Very nice, neat CG near X-way. Big pavillion for Blue grass concerts etc so call ahead to be sure there’s room. Most restaurants 14 mi south at Statesville.

RE: Trucks only

My understanding is that on federal highways and interstates, across the country, the word 'truck' refers to commercial trucks only - i.e., you also are required to maintain log books, have a CDL etc. I would believe, to avoid confusion, most states would also follow that definition on their roads.
It is why on trucks that might easily be confused as a commercial truck, (HDT & MDT) you often see the sign that says something to the effect "Not for Hire". Though that signage is meaningless in law, it does give a heads up to DOT enforcement that it might be a waste of time to stop that vehicle.
It is also why there are frequently more restrictive or explanatory signage such as "No trailers" or weight related or axle related signs.

RE: Check this CG out

Looking at their site, I sure can't tell if I would want to camp there but it appears that they either serve coffee there or else sell mugs. Not sure what else they do. The site sure lacks proper focus. Hope they didn't pay to have it developed.

RE: Bait and Switch

I think he had every reason to be 'nasty' and with all of Donna's adjectives, I suspect that anyone who remotely disagrees with her would have those adjectives applied to him or her. Donna, it seems to me, admits that a former employee, in a position to commit the resort, made a deal with OP. Unbeknownst to OP (no phone call, no email or even followup mail - they had his address since they sent a receipt) this resort discovered that this employee (agent) made a mistake (or is claiming that) and is using that as the reason for reneging on their agreement. I read nothing in their disclaimer to show that they can change a made deal and a receipt in hand is better evidence of a prior made deal than is some "Donna's" verbal, after the fact, claim that some employee, no longer available to defend him/herself, made a mistake.
I know I'd expect better treatment from the campground. I think they have both a legal and moral basis to honor their commitment. With a mgr like Donna, who does not stand behind the commitment of employees, anyone who makes a deal with that park should get it in writing that they are dealing only with the owner cause apparently the park will not stand behind the words of anyone other than the owner.
To the OP, good think you're rid of this park and with luck, your "friends" who subsequently threw you under the bus. With friends like that...

Silver Lakes Golf & RV Resort in Naples would fit your requirements. Pix linked in my sig. Might be helpful if you had some idea of where in the state you had an interest what you were willing to spend.

RE: Nashville in December - Staying in Lebanon

We have stayed at the various cgs on Briley Parkway and we've also stayed at Countryside in Lebanon. Having stayed once at Countryside, we've subsequently been there several more times. We sure prefer it over the cgs on Briley. It is a quick drive to the attractions in Nashville. Though someone noted that the other cgs are more convenient to the Opryland Hotel, I generally don't pick a cg because it's near a hotel. Opryland Hotel is worth seeing as a tourist attraction but I don't need to park my rig at the nearest cg for that reason alone.

RE: NV Residency How-To?

I just don't understand the need to spill one's guts. If you went to Vegas and rented an apartment or hotel room or a rooming house room, when you went to the DMV and gave your address would you have to tell them all about your apartment or room? So you move to Vegas or wherever and rent a really, really, really small room in a business' mail room. Why not just go to the DMV and give them that address. Why would that be any different? If you rented an apartment and used that address, there is NO requirement that you ever sleep there or eat there or anything else there. The fact that you won't be sleeping, eating or anything else at your mailbox address should be no different. You're just having a bit of FTer paranoia. You will find that, in dealing with many banks, credit card companies, and other businesses, you will be better served by not volunteering about your vagabond (in the best sense of the word) lifestyle. It just doesn't fit into the bean counter type mind.

RE: Cleaning Corian countertops....Bachelor needs help.

I don't think I have Corian either. I bought that plastic type and had them insert the little brass round Corian 'button'.:) Geesh, Screamingeagle must think you're really dumb.
The Soft Scrub works well. If you get many scratches, you can use an extremely fine grit sand paper on it. Most grocery stores or Bed Bath & Beyond type stores sell a special Corian cleaner and polish as well.

RE: What is your opinion on this quote??

The last study I saw out of the Univ. of Mich estimated the FTer count at over a million and there's no doubt that there are multiples of a million that are RVers. I believe for purposes of a count such as this, FTers would include, besides the recreational type and retired type FT Rvers, the working RV population that follow their jobs be it pipelines, road construction, other trades that follow major construction jobs, NASCAR team members, carnival and fair workers etc., etc., etc.

RE: Gulf Coast Florida, Family Vacation

Using your requirements as the definition of family friendly, I'd think all those areas are family friendly. I sure know that Naples is. Most if not all the parks here are as well - at least I know of none on the typical roster of parks that are 55+. I suspect, in season which is pretty much when school is in session, you won't find any parks offering things like sleigh rides and scavenger hunts for kiddies and during that time many if not most organized park activities will cater to the crowd that RVs during that time - snowbirds. That said, during Christmas our park in Naples (Silver Lakes - pix linked in my sig) takes on a decidedly younger atmosphere and sound and we all love it.

RE: Clear up my ignorance......

Have never noticed the wiggle, that some mention, in the fivers we've owned and since we FT, I think we might have noticed. I've always assumed, right or wrong, that perhaps the light 5ver might wiggle more and therefore need a stabilizer. Though I'm no lightweight, my weight shifting around as I walk in the rig isn't going to wiggle a 20,000 pound rig.

We've not experienced any problems to pass on to you. The inspection process has always been easy and friendly. If it's not too busy to park, it's at least worthwhile to stroll the area even if you don't have time for a tour.

RE: Joliete, IL, Need nice rv resort

We've not found a lot to pick from around Joliet. We spend 4-5 days twice a year visiting MIL 10 miles east and since Windy City sold out, we've been going to Martins. It's right on the interstate so it's noisy during the day and quiets down a lot after 10-11 pm. Since we FT, we are used to different noise levels, from none to high, whenever and wherever, so it doesn't bother us but if one is coming from their nice quiet suburb home, it might take some getting used to.
As far as the park, it is very basic. No pools etc. Drinking water quality is good and power is good. Sites are long enough for big rigs and more level than some KOAs I've seen. Not a resort but a place to lay your head.

RE: Naples Storage

Art has given you a good suggestion. Exit 101 is closer to Exit 111 than Exit 128 and the I-75 construction is pretty much done south of 111 while it is still pretty much in full swing north of 111 to 128. While it speed limits are not affected, with construction equipment working the medians, the shoulders and every over and underpass, traffic is. There are always those who drop 20 mph just cause they're nervous. I'm sure there are other ones around Exit 111 that others can suggest. We went past the Strand this afternoon and I think I remember seeing a storage place on Imokolee heading west but I'm not sure. Hope you enjoy your stay and am sure you'll enjoy the weather.
I use the one at Exit #101 for 7 months each year to store my lanai when it is taken down. It is quite new and very nice. There are many spots for MH, trailer and boat storage. They are paved pull throughs so they're easy in and out. A number of owners in our park do leave for a month at a time during the winter and fly back home. Many use that facility to store their MHs while gone so that they can rent out their RV lot while gone.
Art's directions are right on. To locate it on your mapping program, the address is 3836 Tollgate Boulevard, Naples, FL 34114. The name of the place is 1st Choice Storage and their phone number is 239-354-5355. The very nice managers are Gene and Ann Christensen and the web site is www.1stchoicestorage.com
To the poster suggesting checking a KOA, let me point out that the KOA up the street from us on Rte951 in Naples runs around $80-90/day at that time of year. Storage should be much cheaper even if you have to pay for a month.
